Glarisegg

The Glarisegg School Foundation is to be renovated and expanded. The need for additional space and the high functional requirements of the special-needs school are addressed without compromising the spatial and historical value of the existing buildings. Three new timber-frame pavilions carefully complement the imposing main building from the 16th century and redefine the existing courtyard. Their simple architecture references the existing barns and sheds, recalls the holiday homes in the neighbourhood from the 1930s, and creates a relaxed, de-escalating atmosphere. The result is a school that does not want to look like a school. The central courtyard becomes the heart of the complex.
